Three Strand Twistout, Product Reviews and a Bonus

I decided to try a three strand twistout for Thanksgiving! As you know, I’ve done three strand twists to create a bun and I’ve always told myself I would likely never do a three strand twistout. It just seemed like it would take entirely too long to twist it.

Based on the poll, the majority voted for a twistout, but Shelli from Hairscapades suggested a three strand twistout. I decided to just go for it.

I washed and deep conditioned my hair before I twisted it. My hair was sooooo moisturized, but I used a ton of new products. I pre-poo’d with Vatika – Enriched Coconut Hair Oil (haven’t used it in a while), washed with my standard Selsun Blue shampoo due to my scalp, conditioned with NuNAAT Intensive Hair Mask (from my November CurlBox), then applied Giovanni’s Direct Leave-in (first time trying it).

The nuNAAT intensive hair mask is wonderful. It has a pleasant, light fragrance. It’s very creamy, which is one reason I generally like conditioners in jars. I followed the directions and left it on for 20-30 min. When I rinsed it out, my hair was soft and moisturized.

I am generally a huge fan of Giovanni products because I have yet to find one that I didn’t like. I was perusing Whole Foods after work on Wednesday and spotted it, so I figured I’d test it out. Now I see why it is so highly recommended. You can feel that it’s holding moisture in your hair. I’ve only used it once, but I’m pretty sure I’d buy it again. Another winner from Giovanni!

Here’s my twistout.

For good measure, here are my twists in October 2011 compared with my twists now. My hair is getting long! *squeal* You can also see the difference in a two strand twist vs. a three strand twist.

The Ultimate Length Check

A lot of times, I don’t give my hair enough credit for how much it has grown. I remember when I first cut it off in July 2011 and my main concern was that it was long enough to put into a ponytail. Truth be told, I hated the way I looked with short hair. That was never a secret. I look back at pics from when I first cut my hair and I cringe. Yeah, short hair works for some people, but it’s not for me. I can guarantee that my hair will never be that short again.

I decided to finally put a few pics together to acknowledge my progress over the last year and 4 months. I’m kicking myself for all of the trims I’ve done during that time period. I can only imagine how much longer my hair would have been it I wasn’t so scissor happy all of the time. Come to think of it, my hair may have been extremely damaged if I didn’t, so I guess all isn’t lost.

Without further ado, here are the pics…
